Sina Hasheminassab is a Research Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Deputy Principal Investigator for NASA’s Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols (MAIA) mission. He also leads MAIA’s international surface monitoring subsystem, a network of ground-based air quality sensors spanning 10 countries across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
His research focuses on aerosol science, air quality monitoring, emerging sensor technologies, and the integration of ground-based measurements with airborne and satellite observations to better understand pollution sources, trends, and public health impacts.
Before joining JPL, he spent more than five years at the South Coast Air Quality Management District, where he led air monitoring projects across Southern California. He also holds a visiting appointment at Caltech and has served as a U.S. Department of State Air Quality Fellow. His work bridges research and regulatory applications, with a particular interest in advancing actionable air quality science in under-monitored regions.

Sina enjoys exploring new places with my family and learning about local cultures. More recently, he has developed an interest in contemporary art, and visiting galleries and meeting local artists has become one of his favorite ways to experience all the places visited.
