Dr. Manrai, a machine-learning scientist reshaping how medicine turns data into decisions, brings computational rigor to the exposomics community.
Arjun (Raj) Manrai, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School, where he leads a lab applying machine learning and statistical modeling to improve medical decision-making. His group works on AI in medical diagnosis, the clinical use of genomic data and blood biomarkers, inherited heart and kidney disease, decision-making across diverse populations, and the reproducibility and safety of medical AI.
His work has appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA, been presented at the National Academy of Sciences, and featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and NPR. He is a founding Deputy Editor of NEJM AI and co-hosts the NEJM AI Grand Rounds podcast.
In exposomics, Raj partners with Chirag Patel and John Ioannidis to bring large-scale, replication-minded analysis to environmental health — including a 2026 Nature Medicine atlas of exposome–phenome associations spanning two decades of NHANES data. A dedicated mentor, he has guided Harvard College students for over a decade as a Leverett House tutor, with trainees earning Rhodes and Soros honors.
